Hi all.  Janice here again.  Coming to you live from Corsica.  Ready to bring you another blog installment.
Sept 30th -  After getting settled in and doing a bit of laundry we went to Greve to do some shopping and then went to a winery.  There was a large group there so we just looked around and took some pictures.  We had dinner reservations for 7:30PM so we decided to go back to the apartment and drop off what we had bought.  It was a good thing we did as we were locked out of the house.  I had been the last one to leave and I didn't notice that the keys were still in the door.  You didn't need keys to lock the door as it locked when you closed it. Ed had a key but when he tried to open the door he couldn't because the key was in the lock on the other side.  Luckily I had left the upstairs bedroom window open and there was a ladder up against the house across the street so Ed climbed the ladder and got through the open window and came down and unlocked the door.  Another crisis averted.
We had dinner in San Gimignano.  It was about an hour's drive.  It was not raining when we got there but after wandering around the shops a bit in the old walled city it started to pour.  We decided to sit at a sidewalk cafe and have wine while we waited til it was time to go to the restaurant. We had a very nice meal and then made our way back thru the dark streets in the pouring rain to the car.

Oct 1 - Today was laundry day.  We had tried using the washing machine in the apartment the day before but one load took all day and we thought we would have to break the door to get the clothes out.  We took our clothes to the laundromat in Greve and met a couple from California who helped us figure out how to use the washers and dryers and they gave us laundry soap as well.  After that we drove around taking in the scenery. We had dinner at the apartment and played cards.

Oct 2 -  We travelled to Florence.  Ed wanted to go to the Uffizi Gallery to see the statue of David.  Florence is a big city and we managed to get parked and walked to the square where the gallery was.  There were lots of people and the line up to get in to the gallery was long.  We would have had to stand in line for over an hour.  We decided not to go.  We had lunch at a sidewalk cafe in the square.  Then we decided to split up and meet at the car at 4:30 as we had to be at our cooking class at 5:30.  Lori & I had been to Florence before so went to see the Dome church, the Golden Door and the Ponte Vecchio bridge.  Ed and Sharon saw much the same on their exploration of Florence.  We met back at the car about 4:15 and set off for our cooking class.  I could not find the address in the GPS but we did have some instructions from Google maps so after some wrong turns we stumbled on to the place.  The family was very nice.  There was one other couple there as well. She was cooking and he was a non-cook like Ed.  We made fettuccine, tomato sauce, pesto sauce, chicken liver crostini, sausage and cheese crostini, turkey breast stuffed with grapes and herbs and an apple cake with almond butter (frangipane).  It was fun and the food was delicious.  We ate in their dining room. Manuela (wife and cook) didn't eat with us but her husband, who helped us cook and did the translating, and their daughter Emma did.  We had the chicken liver appetizer first.  Even Sharon and Lori ate it and they liked it.  Then we had fettuccine with tomato sauce, then fettuccine with pesto sauce, then the turkey breast, then the sausage and cheese crostini and finally the apple cake dessert.   Man that was a  lot of food but so very very good.  We also had different types of wine with each course. Silvio and Emma were very interesting to talk to and he told us a lot about Corsica.  I highly recommend this to anyone.

  1. Wonderful pictures! Your accommodations are amazing for their views. Are you all walking straight? We are noticing a theme regarding wine...and just "a few" adventures along the way :)
