Saturday 3 November 2012

Hi all.  Janice here again.  This blog will be for our last days in Spain and our days in Arcachon, France.  We had limited wi-fi access so I am trying to catch up.

Saturday, Oct 26th - It was a rainy day so we decided to go to the old town of Potes.  The road into this town was thru the mountains and along side the river.  In places along the road the water was gushing down the mountainside like small rivers.  We were concerned that the road may be washed out before we drove back.  After doing a bit shopping in Potes we headed back to the villa as we had invited our hosts, Guido and Rosana for dinner.  Rosana was making the meal - tapas, paella and dessert.  (it was costing us 15euros each for the dinner).  We had a very nice visit with them and a fantastic meal, complete with a few bottles of wine.

Sunday, Oct 27th - After breakfast we decided to go for a walk to the beach because it was not raining and it looked nice out.  We walked 2km to the beach and then walked along the beach for awhile.  Ed decided to go back for the car and asked us to meet him at a designated point just past the breakwater.  Only there was a slight problem once we reached the breakwater stone wall.  There was a channel of water between us and where we were to meet Ed.  That is not the worst of it.  It then started to pour (and I mean pour) we got drenched.  We finally met up with Ed and headed back to the villa to change into warm, dry clothes and sit by the fire.  We had leftovers for our dinner that night.

Monday, Oct 28th -  We travelled to Arcachon, France.  We had rented an apartment for 5 days.  We stopped in San Sebastian for lunch.  Ed found this great restaurant and we had a 3 course meal with wine (for 12.50 euros each).  We travelled by smaller highways and roads (avoiding toll roads) and arrived at the apartment about 7pm.  After getting settled in, we found a nice restaurant for dinner.

Tuesday, Oct 29th - We went to Cap Ferrett for a few hours.  We did some walking around, checked out the lighthouse, walked along the beach and had lunch in a small town.  We did some grocery shopping and a nice dinner at the apartment and played some cards.

Wednesday, Oct 30th - After breakfast we walked around Arcachon and along the promenade.  Then we packed a lunch and took off for Dune de Pyla.  It is the largest sand dune in Europe.  We climbed to the top (another thing I can cross off my bucket list) and had our picnic lunch on the dune.
Later that night, we had dinner at a restaurant near the promenade.

Thursday, Oct 31st -  It was a rainy day so after breakfast we headed for the city of Bordeaux.  It was about 1.5hrs away.  We had lunch there and did some walking around, it is a huge city. We wanted to go to some wineries but the first 2 we put into the GPS were no longer there and the 3rd one was closed.  We then decided to head back to Arcachon.

Friday, Nov 1st -  After breakfast we went shopping at a mall about 15 mins from Arcachon.  Then we headed back to Arcachon and went to a sidewalk cafe to get on the Internet.  Lori and I then went shopping and exploring, Sharon went for a walk and Ed went to the post office.
We had dinner in the apartment and played some cards and did some packing as we were leaving in the morning.
